Obituary for Linda Katherine Shurvell

Linda Katherine Shurvell beloved mother, sister, aunt and grandmother passed away at the Brandon Regional Hospital with family by her side on Monday, January 6th, 2020 at the age of 71. Linda was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 22nd, 1948 to George and Monique Bauer. Linda, was the second oldest of four children. Her family home was always busy with friends and family dropping by. Linda was a great cook and learned early on to master her craft in the kitchen. Growing up, Linda was close to her siblings - whether it was a day at Grand Beach with her sister Georgette and best friend Lynn, or dancing the night away with her brother Edward. Later on in her teens, she took up the role of “mom” to her kid brother Bradley. She loved and treasured the time she spent with all her siblings though. She started her career after night school at the Department of National Defense in Winnipeg. This is where she met, Wayne, the love of her life. Although it took him many unsuccessful attempts, Linda finally agreed to a date and the rest was history. They were married December 22nd, 1978. In 1980, Linda and Wayne transferred to CFB Shilo, and they built their dream home in Brandon in 1983. In 1986, to their surprise, they found out Linda was expecting their first child. One day after her birthday they welcomed their son Garry. To her surprise again, Linda was expecting another child and in May of 1988, they welcomed their second child, Danielle. Linda was a very active member in her children’s schools, being a part of Parent council, fundraising and volunteering. You could find Linda on the sidelines at the ball diamond, sometimes “cheering” a little too loud. She enjoyed many summers at Cherry Point as the cabin was always one of her favourite places to be. Linda was an avid Bingo player and always seemed to have luck on her side - she rarely ever lost! In 2008, she took on her most cherished roll of all, becoming a grandparent. Linda loved being Nan to Gage more than anything, referring to him as “her boy”. She made sure to let everyone know how proud of him she was. in 2016, she became a grandparent for the second time when her granddaughter, Evie, was born and again she made sure to tell anyone who would listen how wonderful she thought her girl was. Nothing made her happier then her grandkids. Her face would beam while talking about them. Linda was predeceased by her father George, mother Monique, in-laws Terry and Helen Shurvell, husband Wayne and brother Bradley. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Georgette Arnould (Dennis), brother Edward Bauer (Trudee), sister-in-law Lana Butchart (Brian), son Garry Shurvell (Chantal) and daughter Danielle Freudenberg (Mike) and their children Gage and Evie. Multiple nieces and nephews. Our family would like to thank the staff at Fairview for taking care of Mom the last year and a half, also to Karen from Daughter on call, who became one of Moms most dearest friends, And to Dr. Deong at BRHC for her care before her passing. In lieu of flowers do something kind for a friend. Donations in memory of Linda can be made to Autism Canada, 140 Yonge St. Suite 200, Toronto, Ontario M5C 1X6
