Obituary for John Gordon Magee

John Gordon (Jack) Magee of Brandon, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Saturday, April 10, 1999. Jack was born September 10, 1925 in the Rural Municipality of Whitehead, son of Arthur and Sarah Magee. He attended Bobby Burns Rural School, south of Alexander; Carroll Consolidated School; High School in Alexander and at Souris Collegiate. Jack worked at San Antonio Gold Mines at Bissett, Manitoba and during his years in Brandon, with McDowell & Doke, a sheet metal firm, with Plains Western Gas and then with the Department of National Defence at C.F.B. Shilo with Base Construction Engineers. He retired in 1990. Jack served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. He also served with the Navy League of Canada in Navy League Cadets, "Stan Hawitt #4, Brandon." Fraternally, Jack was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3 of Brandon. He was a member of the Wheat City Lodge #168, A.F.& A.M., GR.M.; Keystone Chapter #5, Royal Arch Masons, G.R.M. and the Order of High Priesthood, Saskatchewan. Jack was interested in stamp collecting, model building, card games, hunting, fishing, water skiing and wood working. He married Agnes Marie Doucette on May 16, 1953 in Brandon. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Agnes, daughter, Monica Madden (Craige) of Rivers; son Sean Magee (Glenda) of Grande Prairie, AB, grandson, Colten Magee of Winnipeg and brothers; Doug Magee (Babs) of Danville, CA and Cal Magee (Donna) of Melfort, SK. Jack was predeceased by his father Arthur in 1974, mother, Sarah in 1970 and brother, Cecil in 1951. The funeral ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at 2:00 pm. Masonic Rites will be observed. The Rev. Bob Hunter will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brandon cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Jack to the Canadian Cancer Society, 42 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, R7A 2B2.
