It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Alexander Livingstone on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.
John was born in Minnedosa on February 27, 1932 to Mary (nee McKinnon) and Henry Livingstone. John attended school in Minnedosa and graduated in 1947 from the Minnedosa Collegiate Institute. It was here, as a young teenager, that he met and dated Donna. They were married on April 10, 1954. John’s work career started in 1948 with the Manitoba Power Commission as a lineman. This took him to various locations throughout the province including Virden, Brandon, Winnipeg and Thompson. Eventually returning to Brandon, John retired in 1989 from his position as a maintenance and construction manager.
John and Donna were both very community oriented and belonged to many organizations such as the Kinsmen Club, Hydro X and the Condo Association. They also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Operation Red Nose. John enjoyed socializing and oil painting at the Prairie Oasis Senior Centre and was also their bingo caller. His other interests included golf and carpentry, building their home on the Brandon North Hill.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years Donna (nee Williamson); two sons Ron (Mona) and Brian (Shelley); four grandsons Alan, Kevin (Erin), Ryan (Lacey) and Robert (Heidi); seven great grandchildren; brothers-in-law Claire Williamson and Jack Williamson (Audrey Vance), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Mary, parents-in-law Fred and Eva Williamson, sister Helen and brother-in-law John Dyck, two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
A private family funeral will be held at Memories Chapel followed by interment at the Minnedosa Cemetery. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5.
