Mary Doreen (nee Mair) Cowieson passed away peacefully at the age of 97 years, 7 months on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home in Brandon.

Doreen was born on July 20, 1922 on Crofthead Farm in Elgin, MB, the same farm where her grandfather had been born. She was the oldest daughter of Ottie and William Mair. Mom grew up on the farm and attended school in Elgin. She married Charles Cowieson on June 12, 1946 and they lived in Portage la Prairie for a year before moving to Brandon where she remained until her death.

Mom was an active member of St. Paul’s/Central United Church of Brandon; she was the Explorer Leader and Director of Christian Education for many years and was active in the United Church Women group. Mom was a long-time member of Urbanacres Toastmistress Club and proud of her lifetime membership with International Training in Communication. Mom started oil painting in her 60s and her many paintings decorated the walls in her home. Mom lived at Lions Manor from 1999 to 2017, where she was an active participant in activities including serving as Association President.

Mom is survived by daughter Judy (Rod) Johnson, grandson Scott (Tanya) and great grandchildren Kenna and Nate of Abbotsford, BC, granddaughter Alison (Michael) DeVehr of Calgary, AB; son Cameron (Candace), grandson James Pressey, of Sherwood Park, AB, granddaughter Amber Chaboyer and great grandchildren Tanner and Kade; and daughter Lisa Murray (Joe Pelaia), grandchildren Tyler and MacKenzie of Brandon, MB. She was predeceased by her husband Charlie in 2002, father William Mair in 1954, mother Ottie (nee Leslie) Mair in 1995, brother Gordon in 1991, and brother Jack in 2008.

A family graveside service was held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Souris and Glenwood Cemetery in Souris, MB.
