SITKO: Mary “Marie” Lillian (nee Welenchenko). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Marie passed on to see the welcome face of her maker on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre with her family by her side. Marie was born in the farming district of Shell River Municipality near Roblin, Manitoba on January 20, 1931. Marie attended school and worked for her parents Mike and Ann Welenchenko at their restaurant, “The Diamond Grill” where she met her husband of 58 years, Frank. Marie and Frank married on May 21, 1950 and throughout their life together resided in Winnipeg, Morris, Sifton, Pipestone, Russell and Virden before retiring in Brandon, Manitoba. Marie was predeceased by her husband Frank in 2008 and earlier by her brothers Paul and Peter. Marie will be lovingly remembered by her three sons Ken, Bob and Jerry, 5 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and her younger sister Stella Petelitski, who still resides in Roblin, Manitoba. A private ceremony to celebrate Marie’s life was held at Memories Chapel in Brandon on Friday, January 10, 2020. Marie’s eldest grandson, Pastor Michael Sitko officiated. Donations in memory of Marie may be made to Diabetes Canada, Unit A1 – 800 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 6N5.
