Obituary for Margaret Levina Wilkie

Margaret Levina Wilkie
WILKIE: Margaret Levina, age 98 years, of Brandon passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Sunday, December 29, 2019. Margaret was born on the farm near Grandview, the eldest child to Angus and Mary (nee Henwood) Wilkie. She lived on the farm until 1936 when the family moved to Brandon so the children could further their education. Margaret attended Normal School and then walked four miles each way to teach grades 1-8 in Cornwallis. In 35 years of teaching in Douglas, Wellwood, Oak Lea, Rapid City, Souris, Thompson, Wawanesa and Forrest, she never missed a day due to sickness. Margaret was very active in the Free Methodist and Nazarene churches. She almost single handedly cared for her mother during her later years and was always supportive to her brothers, as well as her nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by younger brothers Les and Don; sisters-in-law Noreen, Irene and Leita; and Beth (first wife to nephew David). She is survived by nieces Catherine (Amarjit), Judy Robertson (Al) and nephews Clarke (Carol), Jim (Dorothy), Gary (Benita) and David (Cindy), as well as eleven great and twelve great, great nieces and nephews. Interment will take place on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at Rosewood Memorial Gardens followed by the funeral service at 3:30 p.m. at Memories Chapel, 330 – 18th Street North with Arlene Robertson officiating. The family would like to thank the staff in Brandon Regional Health Centre, ER and 5th floor, as well as Claudia and the staff at Victoria Landing. We would especially like to thank Dr. Jean Deong for her years of care including recent home visits to our dear aunt. If friends so desire donations in memory of Margaret may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3 or a charity of choice.
