Obituary for Sue (Ethel) Marion "Sue" Olive

Sue (Ethel) Marion "Sue" Olive
Ethel “Sue” Olive passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Sue was born on November 20, 1934 in Galahad AB, but grew up in Delta, BC. In high school Sue developed a love of sport, in particular basketball. She also loved playing badminton and later in life grew to become passionate about golf. In 1955 mom joined the RCAF where she became a Fighter Control Operator during the days of the Cold War and the Avro Arrow. While posted to Falconbridge, Ontario in 1959 she met her future husband Fred, a sports instructor in the RCAF. It was a match made in heaven with them having celebrated 60 years of marriage this past August. In 1960 and 1963 sons David and Kevin came along. Many of our memories are filled with wonderful camping adventures as a family. If you ever met Sue at the Scrabble table, you soon encountered her competitive nature. She loved to read and spend time on the golf course. The Olive family experienced postings to Canadian Forces Bases Falconbridge, Raymore, Trenton, St. Hubert, Dana, and Borden - finally retiring in Brandon after their last posting to CFB Shilo. In 1980, Sue’s life changed dramatically after she decided to give her heart to Christ. She became a woman of prayer, which marked her life right up until the very end. She was a tremendous emotional and spiritual support for a lot of single moms. She also led and participated (along with dad) in many Bible study small groups while attending Calvary Temple. Sue loved her grandkids, always boasting of their accomplishments. She even got to re-live some of her competitive nature while attending her grandkids’ sporting events in Brandon. Sue was predeceased by her mom, Mildred Morten in 2004. She will be mourned by her loving husband Fred, sons David and Kevin, daughters-in-law Ruby and Lisa; and grandkids, Kyle, Bryan, DJ, Michael, Matthew and Sarah. Mom’s Celebration of Life will take place at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Donations in Sue’s memory may be made to Teen Challenge-Brandon, Site 325, Box 24, RR3, Brandon MB, R7A 5Y3 or the Crisis Pregnancy Centre, Westman Inc., 229 Princess Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7A ON5.
