Obituary for John Michael Nazar

John Michael Nazar
It is with sadness the family of John Nazar announce his passing on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at the age of 82 years. John was born January 19, 1937, the youngest of 4 to Mike and Anna Nazar, and a brother to Irene, Jeanette and Nancy. He was a true “North-Ender” and lived in the family home until his passing. He was a unique individual which started back in his school days. He was quoted in his yearbook as saying “I agree with no man’s opinions, I have some of my own.” He enjoyed singing in a Barbershop Quartet and was also known to be quite an athlete, however obtained the nick name “Snoozer” which was only known to his close coffee friends. Some of his favorite sports were baseball, fishing, skiing, skating and curling. Early in his years, John’s “crew” apparently left his crew cut and so started his legacy being known as the “Man with the Fedora”. Upon his passing, we counted 17 active fedoras in his wardrobe. After high school John worked as a draftsman on the pipeline until he found his real calling. In 1960 he started in the Psychiatric Nursing Program at the Brandon Mental Health Centre, where he obtained his RPN Diploma. He continued employment at BMHC until his retirement in 1992. John was an active member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was also an avid reader who always had a novel or two on the go. Travelling was a favorite pastime and with extended family in the Detroit/Windsor area, he became a frequent visitor. While visiting he would become a “Tigers” fan and attend events at the Joe Lois Arena. He also enjoyed trips to Vegas with the guys and his highlight trip to Australia. Upon his retirement John created his “daily loop”; he would start with Aurora TV, then move to the Recreation Lanes (5 pin bowling) and then off to the Gallery where he thought it would be a good place for the retired guys to meet daily at 1:00 p.m. Anyone who came to Brandon knew they had a place to meet and catch up on local gossip. He continued this loop until he was hospitalized with renal cancer earlier this year. John was predeceased by his parents, sister Irene Majcher, brother-in-law Frank Majcher, and brother-in-law Mort Miles. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Jeanette (Bob) Brenton, sister Nancy Miles, 1 niece, 9 nephews, 5 great nieces and 8 great nephews. Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Tkachuk as Celebrant. Cantor was Stella Fedeniuk. Interment was held on Monday, September 30, 2019 at Brandon Cemetery at his parent’s grave. Donations in memory of John may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
