Obituary for Roberta Martens (Carter)

Roberta Martens (Carter)
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our dearly beloved Roberta Martens, who passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at her loving home of the past 9 years, Dinsdale Personal Care Home, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Within this sadness we are at Peace and we Rejoice that she has joined her beloved husband Abe and is in the arms of her loving Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She will continue to shine among us as she has throughout her 83 years of life. Roberta leaves behind her sons Ken (Martha), Dale (Angela) and Daryl (Christiane); grandchildren Jason (Jana), Tara (Travis), Kyle (Olivia) and Chad; two great-grandsons Wade and Jack; and 3 loving sisters. She was predeceased by her husband Abe, daughter Diane, great-granddaughter Rubi and brother Glen. Roberta attended public school in Manitou, Manitoba and later became a telephone operator with MTS. She was married at age 19 years to Abe Martens. Abe and Roberta grieved the loss of their first born Diane, but great joy soon followed with the birth of 3 sons: Ken, Dale and Daryl. The family moved often throughout Manitoba with Abe's electrical business, settling in Brandon, Manitoba in the early 1970's. Abe and Roberta owned and operated Wheat City Electric and Spring Park Motel & Restaurant, which was ran efficiently and lovingly by Roberta while continuing to raise three sons. As a family we cannot express in words the gratitude for the amazing love, care and compassion of all the staff, residents and families at Dinsdale Personal Care Home, where Roberta was known lovingly as "Momma Martens". The Celebration of Roberta's Life will take place at Calvary Temple, 620 - 34th Street, Brandon on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Jennings officiating. A reception will take place at the church followed by interment at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Roberta may be made to Parkinson Canada, Brandon and Westman Office, 208 - 1011 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 0L5.
