Mum was born Marie Emilie Mathilde Armande Canart on April 28, 1926 in a town called Hesnuyeres in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. Marie immigrated to Canada with her parents Jean and Angele Canart when she was 5 years old. The family settled in a farming community near Elkhorn. Mum attended rural school, with dreams of becoming a nurse. Mum met our dad (Ralph) and they were married May 15, 1944. Mum was very supportive and helping with the farm life that they had chosen. Working side by side with Dad in the fields, farm chores, and at the same time raising all of us children, and providing a home, love and direction in preparing us for the life and journey we would be taking when leaving home. Mum spent many hours gardening, canning, and sewing. Mum was not in a nursing uniform as such but she was there for us, with our colds, flu, measles, chicken pox, our falls and scraps, you name it she was our nurse, our mother, our mentor, grandmother, great grandmother and great great-grandmother. Mum was very dedicated to her faith and spent endless hours in service to the Roman Catholic Church. God Bless you Mum, and thank you so much for all your guidance and endless prayers. We know you are in Dad’s arms, warm and secure. Prayers will be said at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, Brandon on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327 4th Street, Brandon on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Father Christopher Dubois officiating.
