Obituary for Gaylene Annette Johnson (Kidd)

Gaylene Annette Johnson (Kidd)
It is with great sadness that the family of Gaylene Johnson (nee Kidd) announces her passing on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Gaylene was born in Hamiota, Manitoba on February 27, 1944. During her school years she participated in several activities including being leader of the majorettes, a member of C.G.I.T., played basketball, softball and enjoyed skating and singing in the Hamiota Choir. After raising her family, she went to work at the Dutch Mill Bakery, was a bookkeeper at the City Centre Hotel, Shur-Gro and Behlen Industries, before spending her last several working years at Hastings Hearing Centre until she retired in December of 2008. Over the years she belonged to the Kinettes and was also a member of the ACT & UCT Ladies Club. For many years and countless hours, she loved to watch her children, grandchildren and more recently her great granddaughters participate in so many activities, especially sports such as ball, hockey, football and soccer. She enjoyed curling at Riverview Curling Club for several years. Gaylene also loved to sing and was a member of the Song Birds for a few years until her declining health. She loved to read and spent many hours watching T.V. being so limited to what she could do. Over the past 10 years she enjoyed several trips with her daughter, Robin and sister, Lynda to Hawaii, the Maritimes, Florida, Arizona, Vancouver and Victoria, along with several jaunts to Minot and Winnipeg on shopping and visiting expeditions. Before that she had two trips to Weslaco, Texas and places such as Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and San Diego. In 2013, she moved to the new Senior Complex on McDiarmid Drive, which she really loved and where she made several new friends and partook in as many activities as she could. Left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are: son Dexter (Debbie) Grant, daughter Robin (Joe) Davis and son Darrell (Angie) Grant. Grandchildren: Stephen (Lizann) Grant, Danny (Kaity) Grant, Brayden (Alyssa) Davis, Bryce (Lisa) Davis, Farryn (Shawn) Ryckman, Justin (Eleni) Grant, Alanna Grant (Matt) and Spencer Grant. Great grandchildren: Ashlyn, Hadley and Soren Davis, Alex, Libby, Aria and Juliet Grant and Norah Turnbull. Gaylene will also be missed by brother Garry (Carol) Kidd, nieces Kathy (Warren) Brooks, Karma (Doug) Hawkins, sister Lynda Chorley and two special aunts, Velma and Olive Smith. She was predeceased by parents Cecil and Pearl Kidd, husband Al Johnson and brother-in-law Elliott Chorley. Even though her health declined she always kept her cheerful disposition and remained interested in all her families’ lives right up until her death. Gaylene was always such a kind, caring and thoughtful person. A private graveside service will be held at a later date with Stephen Grant as urn bearer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, #3 - 2430 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba, R7B 0M5, or the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3 or a charity of your choice.

May you rest in peace dear Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, sister, niece, aunt and friend.
We love you.
