Obituary for Gerald "Gerry" Douglas Neff

Gerald "Gerry" Douglas Neff
It is with deep sadness, our family announces the passing of Gerald "Gerry" Douglas Neff or “Neffer” on Sunday, November 11, 2018. Gerald is survived by his Son Ryan Douglas Neff, his ex-wife and Ryan’s Mother Faye MacLachlan, his sibling Marion (Neff) MacLachlan (Estevan, SK) and companion and special friend Val Anderson (Brandon, MB). He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews who were all important to him in his life. Namely Greg (Inez) MacLachlan (Kerrobert, SK), Glenys (Mark) Neuman (Frobisher, SK), Graham (Anika) MacLachlan (Calgary, AB), Cory (Kimberlee Ann) Yeik (Lethbridge, AB) and Stacey (Jessie) Szczecinski (Weyburn, SK). He was predeceased by his two infant children Darren John in 1976 and Marnie Lynn in 1977. Gerald was also predeceased by his parents Verna and Alexander Neff, both of Eyebrow Saskatchewan, Sister Carole Yeik (Weyburn, SK), brother-in-law’s Jim MacLachlan and Lawrence Yeik. Gerald will be also deeply missed by Val Anderson’s children Craig Anderson and Laurie Clarke and their families (Brandon, MB). Gerald grew up in Eyebrow, Saskatchewan and after a 9-month position with the Royal Bank of Canada, he took a job with TransCanada Pipelines Limited (TCPL), which resulted in an over 33-year career as an employee at the Rapid City Station as an Instrumentation Technician and on Pipeline Construction in the summer as a Pipeline Inspector. After a brief retirement, he went on to work another 14 years with Gerry Neff Holdings as a subcontractor to TCPL, supervising major construction projects. Gerald was an avid sportsman and excelled in Bowling, Hockey (as a goalie) and in Baseball (as a great fielder and power hitter). Through these sports he made many life long friends and won many championship’s in the process. The observation was made if scouting was then as it is now, he would have played professional baseball. His love of golf was second to none, enjoying his favorite local courses and spending past winters in Phoenix, Arizona where he could enjoy his passion. Gerald had his favorite teams which involved the Montreal Canadiens, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Atlanta Braves. If he now has any greater influence, do not be surprised if the Montreal Canadiens are in the Stanley Cup finals. Gerald always enjoyed the company of others whether it was family, friends, work collogues or playing Santa for friend’s children or their corporate celebrations. He seemed to have an immense ability to find the humor in any situation and you always knew when he was in the room with his quick wit and his hearty laughter. Gerald will be missed greatly by his family, friends and anyone who knew him in this lifetime. A Celebration of Life was held at the Victoria Inn on Saturday, November 17th, which drew approximately 500 people, which demonstrates the fellowship he shared with everyone in his community. If friends so desire, it was Gerald’s wishes to have donations made in his name to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 7M6. Interment will follow at both Brandon, and Eyebrow, Saskatchewan. His family would also appreciate if you could leave a memory of Gerald on his memorial page at www.memorieschapel.com
