Obituary for Glenora Slimmon (Pearce)

Agnes Glenora Slimmon, O.M. (nee Pearce) passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Born on May 24, 1925, she was the chosen daughter of Margret Helen (nee Mann) and James Arthur Pearce of Tisdale, Saskatchewan. She attended a one room country school and then Tisdale High School. Glen graduated from University of Saskatchewan in 1947 with her BHSc and took dietetic training at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton. She became Women's Editor of the Country Guide, was "Donna Rochdale" for Federated Co-ops Ltd., president of the Consumers Association of Canada, a Consumer Commentator for CKX TV and CBC Farm Radio. Glen received volunteer recognition from the City of Winnipeg, the Queen's Jubilee Medal, Kiwanasis' Wood Memorial, YMCA Women of Distinction, Canadian Volunteer Award and the Order of Manitoba. Glen married Don Slimmon in 1966. They spent seven years in Barbados working for CIDA and CUSO then moved to Brandon in 1977. They were kept busy founding Seniors for Seniors and helping to start Brandon's Farmer Market. Glen was predeceased by her husband Don in 1995, her brother Ronald, and Don's eldest daughter Marguerite. Surviving are Don's daughters Joy (Michael) Phelps, Dawna Rumble and Lillian McRae and their families. A private interment will take place at a later date.
