Obituary for Jordan Robert Kayes

Jordan Robert Kayes
It is with broken hearts that the family of Jordan Kayes announce his tragic passing on September 19, 2018. Jordan Robert Kayes was born May 28, 1982 in Brandon and spent his entire life in the city except for a short time in Alberta. He attended Fleming, J.R. Reid, Neelin and Vincent Massey schools, and after trying various areas of employment, Jordan settled into construction and worked as a framer for the last several years. Jordan had many wonderful qualities that endeared him to family and friends. He was a tall, handsome and charismatic man with red hair, and if you met him you would not forget him. He was intelligent with a great sense of humour, and often laughed about receiving a trophy for being one of Brandon’s centennial babies. He was often quiet and valued the time he could spend alone. His children recall with joy camping in the oTENTik with Jordan and Jessi at Clear Lake one rainy weekend and the fishing experiences they had this year. Jordan was a creative person and produced works of art which are treasured by his loved ones. One of his hobbies was building furniture from reclaimed lumber and his family will enjoy these unique items as they remember his talent in producing them. In years past, Jordan was an avid bowler and golfer, but more recently took up fishing and hunting and enjoyed being by the river and out in nature, and especially the time spent with a friend in these activities. From childhood, Jordan had a special love for Rainy Lake near Fort Frances at his maternal grandparent's cabin, a place he was able to revisit this summer. Jordan was loved by so many people. He had his struggles in life and now is at peace. Jordan is survived by his beloved children, Valkyrie and Ronin Kayes, their mother Jessi Parsons, his mother Cate Thomassen (Jack Schaub), his father Brian (Jill) Kayes, grandparents Orla and Margaret Thomassen and Shirley Kayes. He is also survived by Jessi’s mother Kim Emberly, grandmother Anne Emberly and Jessi’s siblings, Marshall, Cassie, and Chase; step-father Meir Serfaty; aunts and uncles Susan Findlay, Karen Osburn, Andy Kayes, and Maggie Kayes; step- brothers Ryan Tweed and Dan Tweed. He was predeceased by his grandfather Robert Kayes and uncle Dana Thomassen. A service to honour Jordan’s life was held Friday, September 28, 2018 at Memories Chapel. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in Jordan’s memory may be made to the Art Gallery of South Western Manitoba, #2-710 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 0K9 or YMCA Strong Kids Fund, 231-8th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 3X2.
