Obituary for Bruce Hargreaves

David Bruce Hargreaves passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, August 17, 2018. Bruce was born in Winnipeg on October 26, 1956 to Mary and Garry Hargreaves. He spent his early years in St. James where he attended Strathmillan and Golden Gate schools before the family moved to Brandon in 1972. Bruce worked in the security business for many years. In 1989, he started his own Security company (K-Dale Security – named after his wife Karen Dale). This was his passion, we often heard Bruce say no challenge is too big…and he loved to tackle the projects. Having his own business enabled him to be available to pick the children up at school at the end of their day. They have fond memories of Dad picking them up at school and listening to their stories. Later K-Dale Security merged with OBO security. Bruce worked there for many years with his partners at OBO until selling the company in 2002. After that time Bruce owned a Convenience Store and later worked at Home Depot. He enjoyed all of his jobs and careers and loved getting to know new people. Bruce was blessed with many friends and he had his famous annual Grumps Chili Party. He was nicknamed "Grump", lovingly by his friends. Bruce took great pride in his family and loved every minute he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He often told Karen that his life was so complete and was very proud of his children, son in law and grandchildren. Bruce also loved spending time at the lake including sunset cruises on his boat with Karen. Together they loved to travel. Some of his favorite places were Newfoundland, Ixtapa, Florida, New Orleans, Banff and Medicine Hat. Bruce is survived by his wife of 38 years Karen, daughter Natasha and husband Jared and their children Eleanora and Jack Griffiths, sons David Hargreaves and Dillan Hargreaves, brother William "Bill" Hargreaves, sister Lois Macpherson and brother-in-law John Macpherson, and brother Ken Hargreaves. He is also survived my numerous nieces and nephews, who all had a special place in his heart. The Funeral Service was held at the Victoria Inn, Grand Salon, on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery, Neepawa. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bruce may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street East, Brandon MB R7A 7M6.
