Obituary for Lloyd Franklin

On Sunday, June 10, 2018, Lloyd Thomas George Franklin passed away surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Elsie and his three daughters; Karen Downing, Colleen (Lane) Reid and Trinda (Barry) Rabe, daughter-in-law Donna Franklin, grandchildren Adam (Jenn), Sean (Alison) and Travis Downing; Carrie (Wade) Sauve, Christopher (Leann) McCannel; Justin (Karla) Rabe, Krysten (Dave) Bos, Trina McNeil, Craig (Jenn) and Jaime Franklin. Lloyd is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Brendan and Tristan McNeil, Stella Franklin, Emilie and Parker Sauve; Carter and Brock McCannel and Cooper Rabe. Also left to mourn are his sister-in-law Merle Arbuckle, nephews Scott, Tim and Kelly and their families, brother-in-law Ken Abbey, nieces and nephews Brenda, Lloyd and David Abbey and family, Dennis, Jim, Leila Smith and families. Lloyd was predeceased by his dearly loved and cherished son Raymond, parents George and Jennie Franklin, sisters Verna Abbey and Doreen (Russell) Smith, his in-laws Hubert and Mary Arbuckle and brother-in-law Ken Arbuckle. Lloyd grew up on the family farm in the Glanton district attending school and the Pentecostal church in that area. He started the work force early hauling drinking water to and lighting the fire at the church and school. He then worked on the CP railway extra gang in BC, returning to the family farm for forty years to pursue his love of farming. He always said farming was the best job of his life and camping at Clear Lake with his Grandchildren was the greatest joy of his life. Lloyd's genuine love of his family, people and his community were the reasons he led the Forrest 4H Beef club for 8 years, drove a school bus and worked as a greeter at Superstore. He always had a ready smile, quick wit and a pocketful of peppermints. Special thanks to Lloyd's hospital family: Dr. Edward, Dr. R. Fourie and the warm, caring and compassionate staff of A3 Palliative Care. The family would also like to thank Chaplain Joe Ball who was always there when we needed him. A Celebration of Lloyd's Life was held at Central United Church on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lloyd may be made to a charity of choice.
