Obituary for Robert "Bob" Allen

Robert "Bob" Allen
With his family by his side, Robert "Bob" Allen, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2, 2018, at the Assiniboine Centre. Bob was born May 1, 1943 and was raised in the East End of Brandon. He left Brandon in 1977 when he purchased his first hotel in Rivers. Bob then went on to purchase hotels in Gladstone, Portage, The Pas, and finally The Crystal Hotel in Brandon, which he had for 17 years. Bob's love of business and deal making also led him to purchase Bonanza Restaurant, Dominos Pizza and other ventures with his long time partner and close friend Darren. Being a people person, Bob loved all of the individuals working in these businesses as much as the business itself. He thrived off of action and enthusiasm and enjoyed mentoring young people working with him. From the time he was a young boy, Bob belonged to the YMCA where he took swimming, judo and continued to exercise daily until his health limited him. An avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman, he spent one month each fall duck hunting with his dear friend Jerry and took every opportunity he had to go fishing at Lake of the Prairies throughout the year. Bob is survived by his wife Bea "Cookie"; son Robert (Dawn) grandchildren Robbie, Nathon, Treyton; his daughter Trina (Michael) grandchildren Harlowe & Adelaide, and his aunt Thelma (Hall) Souliere and her four daughters. He also leaves behind his beloved yellow lab, Hemi. He was predeceased by his father Bob and mother Rita. The Ceremony to Celebrate Bob's Life took place at Central United Church on Friday, April 6, 2018. Rev. Milo Spooner Craig and Rev. Doug Craig officiated. Bob was laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Bob may be made to the YMCA of Brandon, 231 8th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 3X2 or the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3.
