Obituary for Walter LeRoy Gibbons

On Tuesday, February 20, 2018, Rev. Walter LeRoy Gibbons, passed away at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg. He was born November 14, 1944 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. In 1967, Walter came to Canada to study Theology at Wilfred Laurier University. He was Lutheran Ordained, but aligned with the United Church of Canada. Since 1985, Walter has called Brandon, Manitoba home. A pillar in the community, Walter was involved with numerous organizations such as CNIB, The Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, he was a board member of Welcome Inn and a member of numerous clubs in the community. Passionate about music, Walter loved to sing, produced an album and was a familiar face at numerous festivals. A fan of the Wheat Kings, Walter also enjoyed football and was fond of his faithful companion LeRoy, who was always at his side. Walter will be lovingly remembered by his wife Theresa, son Daniel (Emily) and grandchildren Christopher and Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his mother Norma, father James, brother Jim and wife Brenda. The Funeral Service took place at Memories Chapel on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Rev. Harvey Hurren officiated. Honourary Pallbearers were Stewart Hayter, Lorne Collins and Marcel Bouchard. Pallbearers were Nora Woychyshyn, Susan Spiropoulos, Paul Spiropoulos, Phil Cels, Greg Dinsdale and Charlie Cookson. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
