Obituary for Roy Espey

Roy Espey
ESPEY: Roy Edward. June 17, 1918 – January 15, 2018. It is with deepest sadness and respect that we mourn the loss of our Dad who passed peacefully on January 15, 2018 in his 100th year. Beloved husband to the late Lil (Mary Elizabeth) (2002). Cherished and proud father of Ron (Emily), Maurice (Bernice), Margaret (Bill), Jack (Donna), Bill (Velda). Deeply mourned by his brother Gordon (Joyce), sisters-in-law Mabel Espey, Doreen Espey, Betty Espey, Florence (Reg) Sparrow, brothers-in-law Mark Blair, John Blair, Herb Blair. Loved and respected grandfather to Kim, Debra, Sheryl, Shelly, Brad, Sean, Shonna, Shayne, Maren and Steven. Proud great grandfather to twenty and great great grandfather to three. Predeceased by infant son Dennis Wayne, grandson Brian Edwin, (son of Maurice and Bernice), sisters Edna and Bessie, brothers Harvey, Art, and Allen. Roy and Lil farmed in the Cardale district until 1975 when they moved into Rivers which they thoroughly enjoyed. They say you can take the man out of the country but you cannot take the country out of the man and that rang very true for Roy. Every chance he got and when the weather cooperated he ran the combine and other farm equipment for Doug Marriott, loving every minute of it. In January 2015, Roy moved into Minnedosa Personal Care where he resided until his passing. Special thanks to all the staff and caregivers at the personal care home for all their care, compassion, friendship and taking time out for a few games of cribbage. A Celebration of Life well lived was held at the Rivers United Church, Rivers, Manitoba on Saturday, June 16, 2018 with Rev. Glenna Beauchamp officiating. Roy was laid to rest at the Rivers Cemetery. A reception followed at the Rivers Royal Canadian Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Minnedosa Personal Care Home, Box 960, Minnedosa, Manitoba R0J 1E0 or a charity of your choice.
