Obituary for Jaime Alves Machado Viegas

Jaime Alves Machado Viegas
Peacefully, on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, Jaime Alves Machado Viegas, of Brandon, passed away at the Assiniboine Center at the age of 77 years. Jaime was in the presence of his family as well as his loving partner. Jaime was born August 17,1940 in Cortes do Meio, Portugal. In 1959, Jaime married his wife Maria. Several moves with their four children, Fernanda, Carlos, Paula and Cristina were to follow, with the family moving from Portugal to France, to Thompson then finally settling in Brandon in 1973. After arriving in Brandon, Dina their fifth child was born. Jaime centered his life around his family and around his established business Viegas Construction. He took much pride in this business and worked very hard to maintain his well known work. The family enjoyed time at the lake, fishing, road trips and of course winemaking. In 1999, Jaime lost his wife of over 39 years of marriage, and the family lost their mother, to a short battle with cancer. Jaime later joined Madeleine Addison in a relationship for the last 17 years. He continued with the construction/ renovation business, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, and harvesting the rewards of Jaime’s green thumb and his ability to grow vegetables. Jaime will be sadly and greatly missed by Madeleine; his children Fernanda, Carlos, Paula, Cristina and Dina; grandchildren Kyler, Shane, Kaine, Carla, Alexandra, Tyra, Alyssa, Izabela, Izak, Gracie and Sadie; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Jairden, Yelaina and Donovan; his two sisters in Portugal and his brother in Edmonton. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, December 2, 2017 with Rev. Fr. Michael Raj Savarimuthu as Celebrant. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jaime may be made to Parkinson Canada, 208-1011 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 0L5.
