Obituary for Herman Bernhard Vreeman

Herman Bernhard Vreeman
On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, Herman Bernhard Vreeman, beloved husband of Jean Vreeman died peacefully at Dinsdale Personal Care Home. Herman was born in Winterswijk, The Netherlands on August 31, 1932. He was the fourth son to Herman Vreeman and Aleida Hunink in a family of twelve children. He lived in Holland through the war years and immigrated to Canada in March of 1952. His first few years were spent working on rural farms eventually settling in Brandon. He moved between various jobs in construction and farm-related work before settling into a job at Eastview Farms from 1964-1976. Economics dictated a change and Herman began working at Westman Equipment assembling and repairing machinery. He spent 10 years serving the Westman farming community. By this time the Green Spot which began as a hobby was growing into a full-time enterprise that needed Herman’s talents. Herman retired from Westman Equipment and started a new career at the Green Spot. Herman, his wife Jean, and son worked together building a business that they truly enjoyed as much as the community it served. One of Herman’s passions were the birds that he loved to share with his grandchildren and the customers at the Green Spot. Herman and Jean met at a Christian Reformed Church function, fell in love and married on October 4, 1958. Herman and Jean have been faithful members of the First Christian Reformed Church in Brandon. Herman served there in many capacities throughout his life. Herman is lovingly remembered by his wife Jean; children Herman (Pat) Vreeman, Dick (Paulette Kelly) Vreeman, Alice (Antonio) Araujo, MaryAnn (Nick) Prokaski; grandchildren Dale (Marci Bomford) Vreeman, Mark (Abby) Vreeman, Nicole (Adam) Closs, Amy (Evan) Elliott, Ian and Evan Araujo, Shelby and Rachel Prokaski and great grandchildren, Maria and Claudia Vreeman, Oliver and Asher Vreeman and Claire Elliott. The family would like to thank the staff of Dinsdale Personal Care Home for the gentle, loving care given during his time there. Fifty nine years from the day Herman began his life together with Jean, he passed into glory. The Funeral Service will take place at Central United Church, 327 8th Street, on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 11:00 am. A reception will follow at the church. Herman will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Herman may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, Unit 4B, 457-9th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 1K2 or to World Vision Canada, 1 World Drive, Mississauga, Ontario L5T 2Y4.
