Obituary for Stanley Nykoliation

Stanley Nykoliation
With his beloved wife and three daughters at his side, Dad peacefully passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the age of 74 years. Dad was born on January 3, 1943 in the RM of Strathclair, then moved and attended Ravine School where he made lifelong friends. After a couple of years as a certified welder in Brandon, in 1965, his passion and desire for farming led him to purchase his own 640 acres in the RM of Woodworth. On October 26, 1968, Dad married Lesley Glorieux of Holland, MB. They raised three daughters on the farm. Over the years, dad purchased more land and grew his cow/calf and feeder herd. For many years, Dad was a Watkins feed and mineral supplements dealer and a Dominion Vet Lab product salesperson. Hunting was the only sport that Dad enjoyed. He made deer season an annual competition among his friends. Many hunting memories were made and sausage recipes were tested. While there was always work to be done, some Sundays were for crop tours, coffee with the neighbours, driving through farm equipment lots and taking the girls for ice cream. After 34 years of farming, the farm was sold and Mom and Dad moved to their acreage in Brandon, MB. Retirement brought travels and adventures. Mom and Dad enjoyed seven winters travelling to Needles, California in their motorhome. They made many friends, found the best buffets and went sightseeing every day. Home on the acreage, they spent countless hours keeping up the yard, tending to their bountiful garden and fruit orchard. They loved their life and even more once they had grandchildren. The grandkids learned from the best, whether it was in the garden or shop, on the Gator or in the tractor. Dad was a great conversation, no matter the topic. He was most known for telling you a “Stanley-story”, leaving you wondering if it was the truth or a tale. Stanley was predeceased by his son Jeffrey, father Michael, father and mother-in-law Gerry and Annie Glorieux, and sister-in-law Cecelia. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lesley; his daughter Donna (Bernie) Adam, their children Ciera Adam (Braiden Parohl) and Cortnee (Justin) Brace and their son Theodore; his daughter Gail (Ronny Franken) and their children Emma and Laura; his daughter Rhonda (Dean) Oakden and their children Payton and Hunter; his mother Jennie; siblings Leonard (Marilyn), Phyllis Kohanchuk, Tony (Cheryl), Gerry (Wendy), Ronny (Diana), David (Jan), Marlene (Gord) Vescio, and Mervin (JoAnn); his brother-in-law Jay Glorieux (Glenda) as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces. A Celebration of Stanley's Life took place at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Interment was at the Brandon Cemetery. A reception followed at the Ukrainian Reading Association Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
