McDONALD: The death of Angus Neil (Gus) McDonald age 88 years, beloved husband of Marie, occurred, Saturday February 12, 2005 in the city. Funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North on Friday February 18, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood of Central United Church will officiate. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the Chapel on Thursday evening February 17, 2005 between 7:00 & 8:00 P.M.. Complete obituary information to follow. McDONALD: Angus Neil "Gus" McDonald of Brandon passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the age of 88 years. Gus was born in the Mayne District of Daly Municipality, 18 miles northwest of Brandon, in November 1916. He was the second oldest of six boys. He attended Mayne and Hunter schools. Gus worked for Art Hunter of the Hunter School district and then moved with the Art Hunter family to Nesbitt, Manitoba. He served in the Canadian Army from 1941 to June 1946 during World War II. He was posted in England, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Later, he went on to work as a Psychiatric nurse at the Brandon Mental Health Centre from 1946 until he retired in November 1981. In his younger years, enjoyed fishing, tennis and curling; participating in many bonspiels. Gus enjoyed many years of retirement. His travels took him from the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts, to Alaska and Europe. He especially liked Scotland as he returned for a second visit. His other interests were gardening and working around the house. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and of Central United Church. He loved getting together with family and always looked forward to family gatherings. Gus was predeceased by: his parents, William in 1961 and Katherine in 1982; brother, Glen in 1970; brothers and sisters-in-law Oscar Metz, John Polny, Lula and Adolph Schlichenmayer, and Helen Polny of Chilliwack, B.C. He is survived by: his wife, Marie (nee Polny) of 49 years; sons, Robert of Brandon and Lorne (Shirley); granddaughters, Maeghan, Jenna, and Shannon of Brandon. Brothers, Alex (Marg) of Calgary, Wallace of Saskatoon, Jack (Peggy) of Winnipeg and Lloyd (Eleanor) of Brandon; sisters-in-law Bernice McDonald of Rivers, Cecelia Polny of Regina, and Helen Polny of Saskatoon; brother-in-law Henry Polny of Chilliwack, B.C. and many nieces and nephews also survive.
