EVASON: The death of Heavy Evason, beloved husband of Roz, occurred suddenly on Saturday, March 6, 2004. The Ceremony to Celebrate Heavy's Life will be held at Central United Church, 327-8th Street, on Friday, March 12th, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Mike Waddell, Chaplain of Hockey Ministries International will officiate. Obituary
EVASON: Danial Allan "Heavy" Evason passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2004 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Heavy was born on January 23, 1963, the son of Al and Sheila Evason, in Swan River, Manitoba. His early years were spent with family in Flin Flon, Thompson, Winnipeg and Brandon. Heavy was never one to play with cars & trucks, he could always be seen with some type of sports item in hand. He graduated from grade twelve with a "Chef's Course" at Crocus Plains, and currently was taking a "Councilor Facilitator" course through U of M. He worked in many jobs in the food & sports industries. Just a year ago he went back to the work closest to his heart, that of "Job Coach" at Career Connections. Sports were always his first love - playing hockey, baseball, lacrosse, golf, bowling & many others throughout his life. He learned at an early age that he loved and had a natural talent as a coach. He was just nineteen when he started coaching hockey- a ten year old hockey team in Brandon. From there he went on to coach at several levels in Brandon, Portage, Neepawa, Sagkeeng and Flin Flon, MB as well as Niagara Falls, ON and Peterborough, England. Since 2000, he was a scout for Kamloops Blazers of the WHL. Volunteering was a huge part of Heavy's life, with many organizations, including Westman Dreams for Kids, Association For Community Living & Special Olympics. Recently his time was devoted to being Chairperson for the 2006 Special O Summer games. As shown by the HUGE outpouring of support, Hev will be missed terribly by many, none more than his family. He is survived by: Wife Roz, Stepdaughter Lisa (Jeff), Parents Al & Sheila, Brother Dean (Sherri), Nephew Bryce, Nieces Brianne & Brooke. Grandmother Amy Evason, and numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins as well as chosen family Mel & Mic McGregor, Stacey, Mike, Breanne & Marissa Corrigan, Mother-in-law Ruth Gerelus and the extended Gerelus family. He was predeceased by: Infant brother Terry, Grandparents Clem & Vera Spencer , Uncle Elgin Spencer and Braydon Corrigan. The Service to Celebrate Heavy's life was held at Central United Church on Friday, March 12,2004. Mike Waddell officiated. Urn bearer was Bryce Evason; Portrait bearers were Brianne Evason and Marissa Corrigan. Honorary pallbearers were all in attendance.
