STOTT: The death of Stanley D. Stott of Brandon occurred Saturday July 21, 2007 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Arrangements are pending with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.

STOTT: Stanley Durnin Stott passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, on Sunday, July 22, 2007. Stanley was born on the family farm, located seven miles west of Brandon on the Grand Valley Road on October 24, 1907. He was the second oldest of three boys and two girls. At age 5, Stan's schooling began in Poplar Hill, a one-room schoolhouse. He attended only in the winter months due to farm work during the summer. Stan would often recall his mother driving him to school in a pony and cart. At the age of 27, Stan's father passed down a farm, later becoming Double S Hereford Farm, which still remains in the family today. Stan was one of the first tractor farmers in northwest Brandon in 1934 and owned the first welder in north Brandon. In 1946, Stan was one of the main instigators in getting Manitoba Hydro power. He was the oldest milk shipper with Wheat City Dairies and raised purebred registered Herefords. He was the oldest leased operator with Arnold Bros. Transport in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Stanley was a member of the Manitoba Pool Elevators Board of Directors, Manitoba Milk Producers Association and a school trustee for eight years. He enjoyed playing the harmonica, restoring vintage vehicles and listening to the barn dance on WLS Chicago radio during the Depression. Stan fondly recalled swimming in the Little Saskatchewan River at the old "ten-mile dam". In 1936, he built a snow plane and drove various people in emergency situations. At age 89, Stan was the oldest person to have quadruple by-pass heart surgery at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg. Stanley is survived by his wife of seventy - two years, Winnifred of Brandon; daughter Sharon (Ian) Bobiak of Brandon; granddaughter Shauna (Steven) Dyck and great-grandaughter Arianna of Canmore, Alberta; granddaughter Heidi (Dean) Dixon and great-granddaughter Tasia of Cochrane, Alberta; son Cyril (Tiena); grandson Conrad (Pam) and great-granddaughters: Brittany and Brianne; and granddaughter Amanda all of Brandon. Stanley was predeceased by his father Alfred in 1939, mother Cassie in 1916; brothers George and Frank; sisters Evelyn and Rene and granddaughter Andrea Stott in 1981. The Funeral Service will be held at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, 635 McDiarmid Drive, on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Dan Pope will officiate. Pallbearers will be Conrad Stott, Dean Dixon, Steven Dyck, Richie Marvin, David Marvin, and Garth Hockley. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Stanley may be made to McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church Missions, 635 McDiarmid Drive, Brandon, Manitoba, R7B 2H6. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
